You need to have a basic understanding of patternmaking, and a knowledge of the main principles, in order to make patterns. If you are new to this website, it is not a good idea to start with trying to make a pattern without a good grasp of the basics.
A good place to start is to read the article: Where do I start? How do I learn patternmaking? Which summarized is: read the Principles pages and do some of the manipulating darts exercises. Use the Third Scale Blocks and follow along with the instructions in the Garment Elements menu (for example: create the different styles of skirts using the basic Skirt Block). Then you can follow along with the pattern instructions using the scale blocks. Finally, when you are ready, you can put that theory into practice making your own patterns.
In my Patterns pages, I often don’t go into detail if that detail is covered elsewhere in my website; there is no point in having the same information repeated.
The instructions in the Pattern pages are often just a summary (rather than step-by-step) as they point you to the various pages that contain the step-by-step information. (i.e. Creating a flared skirt from your 2-Dart (Straight) Skirt Block is covered in the Elements Pages. If I create a pattern with a flared skirt – e.g. Dress-001, then i will refer you to the relevant Elements page by providing a link).

I am actually trying to use the lessons to make some My size Barbie Patterns since there
are no classic patterns available for her. I am interested in making the movie 20-to 60 styles.
I managed to do a jeans pattern, but took a lot of experimentation. Now I would like to
try with making basic patterns and learning to manipulate darts and style lines.
I’m not quite sure what you mean by “the illustrations for a 8.5″ x 11.5” patterns.”….
It is very unlikely I will be publishing all of the information on my website in a book format, however I am planning on publishing all of my future pattern instructions in little EPUB/Kindle booklets, as well as the instructions as booklets on drafting the individual blocks (Bodice Block, Skirt Block, Pants Block, etc).
The first three booklets I plan on publishing are (1) Drafting the Pants Block, (2) Drafting a basic pair of pants with a yoke and back zipper (using the Pant Block), and (3) Drafting a pair of jeans (using the pants block).
After that probably another another couple of dress patterns, then a jacket and a coat….
The booklets I will be selling will only cost about $5 or so. I will still putting up some free articles and videos on my website, but I really will have to start charging for something as I’m currently not even covering my website costs. And I can’t keep doing that forever.

I wish I could buy a book with all the information from this website, even with the illustrations for a 8.5″x11.5″ patterns.
